April 11th and May 2nd
11:00-1:30
Join us for a special two-part handbuilding and painting workshop that blends clay, creativity, and color. In this unique collaboration, you’ll first create your own handcrafted ceramic paint palette, brush cup, and brush holder — then return to use them in a guided painting experience. It’s a beautiful way to experience the full creative cycle: making the tools and then bringing them to life through art.
Part One: Build Your Artist’s Tools
In the first session, you’ll learn foundational handbuilding techniques as you design and create your own ceramic paint palette, brush cup, and brush holder. Using slab and pinch methods, you’ll shape a palette with wells for mixing colors, along with a cup and holder to keep brushes organized while you paint. We’ll explore thoughtful construction, proper joining techniques, and refining edges so each piece feels both functional and beautiful. You’ll also have the opportunity to add texture, carve designs, or keep the forms clean and minimal. Each participant’s set will be completely unique — a personal toolkit designed by your own hands.
After the workshop, your pieces will be carefully dried and taken through their first kiln firing. They will then be glazed and fired again so they are durable, food-safe, and ready for use.
Part Two: Paint with Your Handmade Set
Once your finished ceramics are ready, you’ll return for the second part of the experience — a relaxed and inspiring painting class led by Sarah Swoffer of Let's Paint Bend. During this session, you’ll get to sit down with your very own handmade palette, brush cup, and holder and use them while learning painting techniques in a guided class. It’s a joyful moment to see your handmade tools in action while exploring color, creativity, and self-expression.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and welcoming to all skill levels — whether you’re new to clay, new to painting, or simply looking for a unique creative experience. All clay, tools, glazing materials, and kiln firings are included, and your finished ceramic pieces will be ready in time for the painting class.
By the end of this two-part experience, you’ll leave not only with a set of handmade artist tools, but also with the experience of using them to create something new — a full-circle creative process that celebrates making, learning, and artistic play.
*The outcome of each piece is never certain, the alchemy of clay and the craft of shaping it are as unpredictable as they are essential.
There are 10 spots available for this workshop, sign up before they fill up! If less than 7 people sign up, we will need to reschedule for another time.
Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the workshop are non-refundable. Contact Krista Brenner of La Luce Studio for questions at krista@lalucestudio.com or 415-308-4538.
